about

>OHMG event production. Sounds like a big event production company

No, it’s one man

>Who?

Oberyn Haslan

>And is he writing about himself in the third person because he doesn’t have a web guy?

Yes

Oberyn found his calling in event operations in 2007, where as a student he ran Nottingham University’s renowned Freshers’ Week: organising 14 club nights, 7 hall parties, an army of volunteer reps and a fleet of yellow double-decker buses to move 5000 Freshers around a brand new city safely

After graduating in Civil Engineering, he spent the next 5 years of his life trying hard to take concrete and tarmac seriously. When he just couldn’t bear to look at the tarmac anymore he tacked swiftly back to the world of professional events

London 2012, the Australian Open, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Toronto 2015 PanAm Games and the ATP World Tour Finals were some of the many events that followed where Oberyn took on high-level Ops and Logistics roles – ensuring these big-budget TV quality sport events were built, operated and dismantled to the standard and timeline expected

2016 and Oberyn joined the Lawn Tennis Association where he spent the next 4 years as one of the lead organisers of the annual Queen’s tournament, a vantage point from where he gained a 360 degree experience of all the elements that make up a high-end, high-profile sporting event with a big budget and an insanely complex and challenging build and de-rig

But what he really gets passionate about are the events he’s put on outside the world of work: high-production value house parties, TV show revivals, and themed weekend mansion parties for friends

GLOVETANIC 1919

Glovetanic 1919 was a private 3 night luxury mansion party for 36 friends, themed around the golden age of the steam-powered pleasure cruise. Guests received their communications from the fictional Captain of the RMS Glovetanic, which was setting sail on its maiden voyage around the world. A themed flyer, boarding pass, supperclub menu and itinerary followed which provided guests with all the information they needed, including their allocated passenger groups and fancy dress ideas. The final bit of advance hype was a 30-days-to-go teaser/trailer, which was the movie Titanic re-imagined in 3 minutes and re-soundtracked to Just by Bicep. The scene fully set, passengers boarded the good ship Glovetanic – a nautical-themed, 13 bedroom, 15th century Grade II listed house on the Ipswich waterfront – and the 3 day party began: an amazing supperclub with middle eastern and asian food which brought to life the course of the ship; dancing to big sound and lighting; delicious cocktails in the hot tub; a bespoke spy game to unlock the Captain’s chest – all followed up with a wrap video to leave the guests with a lasting memory of an epic weekend

Oberyn lead the production and was behind all the creative elements of Glovetanic 1919

Fever-Tree Championships

The Fever-Tree Championships, or Queen’s, is the main warm-up tournament for Wimbledon. For four years Oberyn managed over thirty key suppliers at this prestigious event, looking after procurement, specification, contract/budget management, briefing and schedules for: PAs, big screens, show production, sports presentation, furniture hire, graphics, wayfinding, radios, internet, FOH fitouts, spectator stewarding, crew and event runners, electricians, plumbers, portacabins, cleaning & waste management and merchandise. The level of planning, the quality of the suppliers and the standard of finish of this £4m budget event was like nothing else Oberyn worked on and it set the bar for what he now tries to achieve in other events he works on

Oberyn was Event Executive on the Fever-Tree Championships

Starz in there Eyez

Before Netflix, before YouTube, before home broadband, Saturday Night Television was the pinnacle of home entertainment. And one entertainment show soared above them all, giving Joe Public the chance to become their musical idol and sing and dance their hearts out to the nation…Stars in their Eyes

With a karaoke kit, a large living room, a “Matthew Kelly”, seven Star Guests and a studio audience of 20 friends & family, the ‘Starz in there Eyez Charity Fundraiser’ was born in March 2018. George Michael, Elton John, Alanis Morrisette, Madonna, Jarvis Cocker, Rick Astley and Monsieur (& Madame) Thernardier from Les Miserables all put in stellar performances, but it was the Beastie Boys who were the victors on a night that raised £500 for a local charity

Oberyn was the creator and executive producer of Starz in there Eyez

The Ball at the Winter Palace

Winter 1903.  Tsarist Russia.  The Russian Royal Family had the fascination for throwing the most lavish gatherings and extravagant balls. But they did not get more ostentatious than The 1903 Ball at the Winter Palace.  Dubbed the last spectacular ball of Imperial Russia, it was held over 3 days and guests who were members of the Imperial family and Russia’s elite came dressed in the flamboyant regalia of 17th century Russia borrowed from the National Museum, and were treated to champagne, orchestral music, theatre and dancing

This served as a perfect theme for an extended NYE party for friends in 2015/16. A large party house in Brighton sleeping 30 people was rented and turned into the Winter Palace. Invites that looked like Royal Summons printed on vellum and signed by the Minister of the Imperial Court were posted out and an Order of Ceremony was produced. On arrival guests received a traditional Russian greeting and could claim a free Russian Banya massage in the basement sauna (which involves thrashing them with bundles of birch leaves). The fancy dress theme was purposefully obscure, so photos from the original 1903 party, along with craft supplies and fabrics were provided to the guests to recreate the outfits for themselves. After an imperial banquet, the dance floor was cleared, Rasputin by Boney M came on and a New Year’s Eve party began that the Romanov Dynasty would have been proud of
